This Historic Structure Report for the French Cable Hut at Cape Cod National Seashore describes the history, management, conditions, and proposed treatment of the structure. Because it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and identified in the NPS List of Classified Structures as a Class A structure, the Development Plan for Eastham outlined a plan for moving and preserving the hut for park housing. This preferred alternative to "maintain, then move and preserve" responds to inevitable advancing erosion. The National Park Service intended to use the French Cable Hut for seasonal housing. The significance of the French Cable Hut is the result of its association with the first undersea communication cable between the United States and France. Much of the structure had changed radically since the French Cable Company abandoned operations during World War II. Measured drawings and photographs are included.
