(Adapted from authors' abstract.) A pilot study to develop methods for measuring population trends of landbirds was conducted for the Alaska Bird Observatory in the Inventory and Monitoring Study site in the Rock Creek watershed of Denali National Park and Preserve during July 1992. Reconnaissance surveys and fixed-radius point counts were used to sample the avifauna of the watershed, and to determine the feasibility of collecting habitat-specific data to monitor population trends in forest, treeline, riparian, and tundra habitats. Recommendations for improved sampling programs for monitoring population trends of landbirds in the Inventory and Monitoring Program for 1993 are presented.
