The North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) is a continent wide program for monitoring populations of breeding birds. The BBS is designed to show population trends by producing an annual index of relative abundance. In Denali National Park and Preserve two routes have been surveyed annually since 1994. In 1998, 311 individuals of 22 species were recorded on the Savage route while 31 species were represented by 330 individuals on the Toklat route.
