We estimated the number of moose (Alces alces) in a 7,068 km squared area of Denali National Park and Preserve (DENA) during 2-7 November 1999. We observed 924 moose during the aerial survey and estimated (+ 90% confidence interval [CI]) 1,866 + 244 moose for the entire survey area. Overall density was 0.26 moose/km squared; density by survey unit ranged from 0-1.8 moose/km squared. The calf:bull:cow ratio was 22:69:100. We estimated that 80% of cows were without calves, 19% of cows had 1 calf, and 2% of cows had 2 calves present. The estimated number of moose has remained relatively stable since 1986. Similarly, calf:cow and bull:cow ratios have remained constant since 1986.
