Author's introduction: "This report summarizes the status of my research activities in the old-growth forests of Redwood National and State Parks, where arboreal investigations of tree structure, tree physiology, and epiphytes have been underway since 1996. A number of studies have been completed, some are in progress, and two new projects are proposed. Copies of recent publications, five permit applications, and two major datasets are appended to the report. A proposal to the National Science Foundation, which I submitted in July 2003, is also included. If funded, a 5-year investigation of second-growth redwood forests will be initiated. Please feel free to contact me about any details (i.e., definitions, calculations, or methods). I would also be delighted to give presentations of this information at your convenience."
