An examination of a range of specimens of Weissia sweetii Bartr. and Weissia perligulata Flow. indicates that the 2 species should be considered conspecific, and confirms placement in Trichostomum. Tricostomum sweetii is endemic to the southwestern United States and known from 8 localities.
