The hinterland: an overview of the prehistory and history of Prince William Forest Park, Virginia
Parker PL. 1985. The hinterland: an overview of the prehistory and history of Prince William Forest Park, Virginia. NCR Archeology Occasional Report Series. 1; TIC #D-11. National Park Service
This report provides an overview of the historic resources of Prince William Forest Park. It was written to illustrate all available resources which document land use of the current park area from the earliest plausible human occupation, through World War II, to the present day 1986. The resources used for this project were based largely on documentary research, interviews, local and major historical collections, fieldwork, and analysis. The author made predictions and assumptions based on her findings. She outlined each time period and described where the information could be located and how much she relied on them for her own research. The report contains maps and photographs which illustrate historical findings. The final document was submitted to the NPS under a cooperative agreement with the University of Maryland.
