Report from the 1995 southwestern willow flycatcher(Empidonax traillii extimus)survey. Species is federally listed as endangered. Factors contributing to population declines are loss, alteration, and fragmentation of native riparian habitat, brown-headed cowbird(Molothrus ater) brood parasitism, loss of wintering habitat, and depredation. Concern about the decling populations prompted Arizona Partners in Flight to initiate statewide, standardized surveys in 1993 to provide a basis for management recommendations to benefit the willow flycatcher and other riparian birds.
