Report of a study begun in 1997 to examine patterns of mortality of pinyon pine due to various agents, most notably black stain root disease, Ips bark beetles and human perturbation of the environment by means of road building, home construction, and recreational use. This study uses conventional forest sampling techniques, and remote sensing to examine mortality.
