This report describes a study in which 52 different collections of tiger salamanders and associated environmental data were made on both rims. Some specimen were preserved, some were transported back alive for analysis, and most were examined and notes recorded in the field. Preliminary data suggests considerable evolutionary divergence of tiger salamanders on the Grand Canyon rims. Evolutionary direction is closely tied to interim environmental differences, and larval and subadult-adult adaptations are correlated with pond and gopher burrow niches. Some interesting laboratory and field observations are included (no data).
