Reintroduction of Fire Maintains Structure of Mechanically Restored Pinyon-Juniper Savanna (New Mexico)

Jacobs BF. 2002. Reintroduction of Fire Maintains Structure of Mechanically Restored Pinyon-Juniper Savanna (New Mexico). Ecological Restoration. 20(3):207-208

Discussion of preliminary results of burns conducted in 2000 on two small-scale plots that were mechanically treated in 1995 -- one located on Frijoles Mesa in Bandelier NM and the other on Garcia Mesa in the Santa Fe National Forest. Authors measured total fuel loading, vegetative cover and density, and nitrogen availability, and used repeat photos at whole plot and small quadrat scales to complement cover data. Preburn data was collected in late summer/fall.
