Walter DS, Sulam B, Simpson S. 1979. Historic Structures Report, Part II, Architectural Data: Fort Hancock Quartermaster Structures, 1900-1918. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Denver Service Center, Denver, Colorado
Fort Hancock is part of the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area. On the entire peninsula of Sandy Hook, there are approximately 300 structures reflecting Light House Board, Lifesaving Service, and United States Army activity from 1764 through the 1970s. These structures are of varying levels of historic and architectural significance. The buildings included in this report were designed and constructed in the years 1900-1918 by the Army Quartermaster Department to meet the needs of the garrison associated with the Sandy Hook Defenses in the years immediately following the Spanish-American War through World War I. This report will document the buildings of the period from 1899 through 1918. The report will provide architectural data to complement the historical evidence reported by Edwin Bearss in 1978.
