The author has gathered historical information about Redwood Creek and its fishery resources from long-time local residents, newspapers, and other sources. Fish species and numbers, hatchery operations, and trends are described. According to newspaper articles over the years, both the size of individual fish and the numbers have declined, particularly since about 1970. Severe flooding of Redwood Creek in 1955, 1964, and 1972 caused changes in the creek that are suggested as affecting the fishery; other factors include commercial fishing, the estuary, poor logging practices, and Caltrans activities. Some sources see recovery in recent years in certain parts of the upper basin.
