Bats as a group show wide diversity in food preference, but most species are predisposed to a single dietary classification (insects, fruit, blood, or other) When the long-nosed bats feed on the terminal saguaro fruits, they create an enlarged distal opening and remove much of the pulp. At this point, moths gather in substantial numbers inside the hallowed fruit to drink the sweet juice of the remaining 'lining' of fruit pulp. .
