The Dove at the tip of the iceberg: Evidence for a debris-covered glacier at the Boulder Field, north flank of Longs Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Several lines of evidence support a hypothesis that the Boulder Field on the north flank of Longs Peak consists of a relatively thin layer of debris overlying an ice core. In short, I interpret the evidence to indicate that the Boulder Field is the surface of a debris-covered glacier which extends from the North Face of Longs Peak downvalley at least to the vicinity of Granite Pass (Figure 1). The Dove is the only non-debris-covered portion of the glacier - the tip of the iceberg. The glacier has an estimated minimum surface area of approximately 1.47 km2.
