Distribution and status of the sheath-tailed bat (Emballonura semicaudata) in the Mariana Islands

Lemke TO. 1986. Distribution and status of the sheath-tailed bat (Emballonura semicaudata) in the Mariana Islands. Journal of Mammalogy. 67(4):743-746

Taxonomy and distribution of the sheath-tailed bat are poorly understood owing to a paucity of specimens and published measurements, incomplete or erroneous locality data, and conflicting use of specific and subspecific epithets. This paper clarifies the situation by providing new information on previous localities, reviewing obscure literature, and presenting new records of Emballonura semicaudata from the Mariana Islands. The status of the sheath-tailed bat in the Marianas is discussed in light of recent findings.
