Extensive report describing the history of land use on St. John. The two major sections cover the plantation system (1718-1850) and the mixed economy (1850-1950). Describes the social structure as well as number of acres being used for various agricultural purposes. At the end are 7 maps. Map one shows sugar producing areas (shaded to show length of time used for sugar). Map two shows the distribution of cattle in 1797. Map three shows the distribution of cattle in 1860. Map four shows the distribution of cattle in 1934. Map five shows the distribution of small holdings in 1915. Map six shows the length of time regions of the island were under cultivation (over 170 years, 100-170 years or under 100 years). Map seven gives modern place names.
