Diet of Juvenile Kemp's Ridley and Loggerhead Sea Turtles from Long Island, New York
Logan P, Keihn L, Smith J, Thompson R, Hannigan L. 1993. Diet of Juvenile Kemp's Ridley and Loggerhead Sea Turtles from Long Island, New York. Copeia. 1993(4):1176-1180
The predominance of nin-spined spider crabs (L. emarginata) in the fegal samples of Kemp's ridleys and loggerheads suggests this species is a significant food resource for these sea turtle species on Long Island. The results of this study illustrate an important, although inconvenient, consideration in the management and conservation of endangered sea turtles. Dietary habits cannot be extrapolated from one region to another.
