The 1929 First Biennial Report of the Kentucky National Park Commission for the establishment of Mammoth Cave National Park stated that the turkey was not to be found on these lands and recommended they be reintroduced. 28 turkeys were released in 1983 and by 1986 turkey were trapped for use in reintroducing flocks in other parts of Kentucky. This report outlines yearly turkey counts, and gives relocation sites, management problems, local attitudes, and makes recommendations for future flock health.
