This paper on the history of logging in the Redwood Creek basin gives a chronology of timber harvest activities, noting methods and intensity for various phases. The years from 1949 to 1954 saw the most intensive logging in the basin; 1960's logging was mainly clearcutting through use of tractor yarding, causing extensive disturbance. More-recent tree removal has used cable yarding on steeper slopes, reducing erosion potential somewhat. Since the major part of the logging occurred in the upper basin within the 15 years prior to the 1964 flood, this allows evaluation of effects from heavy storms and effects from logging activity. Data for this report come partly from photointerpretation of a series of aerial photographs. Includes a generalized vegetation map of the Redwood Creek basin, graphs of timber harvest.
