The purpose of this demonstration project is to evaluate the use and effecitveness of the 'thin-layer' method of placing dredged sediment onto a deteriorating tidal marsh as a means of reestablishing the vegetative coverage of this marsh area to smooth cordgrass. The proposed experimental restoration is necessary to guide future restoration efforts and prevent further loss and deterioration of the exceptional ecological support function of Big Egg Marsh and other marshes.
