Specific water quality standards impacted by CSO discharges are dissolved oxygen and total and fecal coliform. Dissolved oxygen and coliform bacteria concentrations do not comply with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation water quality standards for Class SB waters in many areas of Jamaica Bay. The majority of large combined sewer overflows discharge to tributaries located in the northern and eastern sections of the bay. As part of this project, an assessment was made of the controls required for CSO's that would improve water quality in Jamaica Bay.
