Storage and disinfection of combined sewer overflow discharges will significantly improve water quality by reducing floatables, solids (settleable and suspended), and total and fecal coliforms, while also helping to reduce sediment oxygen demand and improving dissolved oxygen levels. Regardless of the alternative chosen, CSO reductions necessary to achieve long-term water quality improvements will be accomplished. One-time dredging of CSO-related sediments accumulated in the three tributaries will also occur regardless of the alternative chosen. This dredging also will lessen the effects of nuisance odors caused by hydrogen sulfid gas and improve the clarity of the water. Access to the water by recreational boaters should also improve once the shallow water conditions caused by high sediment concentrations are abated so that the original bottom contours are generally reestablished.
