Pollen and plant macrofossils in the sediments of three Sierra Nevada lakes (Starkweather Pond, Tioga Pass Pond, and Barrett Lake) were examined to document vegetation changes in the last 12,500 years. General changes imply more mesic conditions before 6,000 B.P., and a decrease in the upper altitudinal limits of many subalpine conifers after 2,500 B.P.
