Thalassia seedlings collected in the Bahama Islands were transplanted into the lagoon of a coral reef microcosm where their survival and growth was monitored. Only 25% of the original number planted survived after eight months. The leaves grew a minimum of 2 em per month. Seedling growth in the microcosm exceeded that reported from field studies. The microcosm system could be used for maintaining seedlings for use in the restoration of disturbed Thalassia beds.
