The first cave radio reception occurred on August 19, 1922 in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. Since then there were six separate events of this type in Mammoth Cave and one in Wyandotte Cave described by the author. This article describes the obstacles needed to be overcome and misconceptions as to the reasons for good or poor reception in the cave. Included in the descriptions are the types and specifications of the radio equipment used, and information on the publicity surrounding these experiments generated by caves, cave rivals and broadcasting stations of the day.
