Based upon this work and previous studies, it appears that the Presidential alpine flora has greater floristic, vegetational, and environmental affinities with the Arctic than with its western alpine counterparts. The high atmospheric moisture and fog and cloud cover have enabled many arctic species to maintain themselves within the Presidential Range, while they have been eliminated from the western alpine floras.
