A Test for Estimating the Relative Informativeness of Vegetation Gradient

The test outlined in this paper is designed to estimate the relative informativeness of numerical gradients containing quantitative vegetatival data. The test will be applied to the results of a transect survey of an open Quercus savanna in southeastern Wisconsin (USA). Eight vegetational gradients will be constructed: two based directly on pattern of species composition, two on locational data, three on environmental data and on randomly assigned numbers. A discussion of vegetation pattern will follow.
