A Human Impact Site Inventory (HISI) process was developed in 1986 to standardize data collected at human impact sites encountered by rangers on patrol. A HISI form was designed so that a maximum amount of detailed information could be collected by Park personnel with little or no botanical or soils expertise. Site data have been stored on files in Dbase III Plus. Sixty sites were inventoried between 1986 and 1987. Site documentation was concentrated in areas of known high visitation including Walker Lake, Alatna River, Arrigetch, north fork Koyukuk River, and Noatak River. Vegetation damage, signs of fire, and trails constituted the most common impacts. The report includes an example of the HISI form and samples of information retrievable from the database.
