Nomenclatural Notes on Datura L.

During the course of routine verification of places of publication and dates of names used by Avery, Satina and Rietsema in their forthcoming book, The Genus Datura, it became evident that much nomenclatural confusion has accumulated in this genus. A complete list of names pertaining to the genus will be published in the volume by my associate, Miss M.-H. Sachet, and will embody the nomenclatural conclusions arrived at during its preparation. However, it seems desirable to present in considerable more detail than space allowed there the results of the application of the Code to some of these, and also to indicate certain other facts about the current use of several names in Datura. Therefore there are listed below the names which 'raise any nomenclatural problems and such remarks as apply thereto. Taxonomic dispositions are generally not attempted here. Generic synonymy is given first.
