I write with three designs upon the individual reader: I ask him to question his own beliefs in the field of ecology, in an attempt to realize the limitations of them. I ask him to try to comprehend (even if he does not agree with) the beliefs, opinions and language of those with whom he thinks he has a controversy. Lastly, I ask him to write and talk in a language that is not only understandable to those of his own clique, but that does not invite misunderstanding from his professional adversaries.
