Rivers

Leopold LB. 1962. Rivers. American Scientist. 50(4):511-537

This paper presents some of the relatively recent developments in thinking about rivers and river morphology. Contributions of the past decade have been centered around the mathematical analysis of river processes and of channel and drainage net characteristics. This work, contributed by a variety of scientists in different disciplines, has resulted in a quantative description of many of the physical characteristics of rivers, and, at least to some extent, a description of some processes in basic physical terms.
