Waste management is a big responsibility for river runners at Grand Canyon National Park. In 1975, approximately 20 tons of human wastes were produced by more than 14,000 river trip participants on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon National Park. This paper examines the potential public health risks due to waste burial on the beaches, the effectiveness of current disposal methods, and the workability of alternative disposal methods. Includes 23 tables, 11 illustrations, and 65 bibliographic entries.
