Ecological Relationships of Rattlesnakes in Southeastern Arizona with Notes on Other Species

In the Chiricahua Mountains and San Simon Valley of southeastern Arizona Crotalus s. scutulatus is found in barren parts of the valley while C. atrox is closely confined to the mesquite-tarbush association near the mountains. C. m. molossus was found in the mountains from 4900 to 8800 ft above sea level. It is suggested that increased aridity in the area within the last century has been accompanied by an extension of the range of scutulatus.
