The Klamath Mountain Region, lying between the southern Cascade Mountains and Pacific Coast in northern California and southern Oregon, is an area of great climatic, geological and vegetational diversity. One major range of the Region, the Siskiyou Montains along the California-Oregon border, was chosen for a study of relations of mountain forests to climates and parent materials. For reasons of vegetational history, the age of the Klamath Mountain Region is a 'center' for forest floras and forest vegetation of the west.
