Electrophoretic characterization of Hyalella montezuma: An endemic filter feeding amphipod

This study characterizes several electrophoretic protein patterns of an endemic filter feeding species of amphipod, Hyalella montezuma found in Montezuma Well, Arizona. General protein patterns for whole organism homogenates demonstrated differences between the two sexes. Aldehyde dehydrogenase exhibited a typical three-band pattern while lactate dehydrogenase yielded a five-band pattern, which are reminiscent of a dimeric and tetrameric structural complexity, respectively. Enzyme polymorphism was not observed for aldehyde dehydrogenase or lactate dehydrogenase.
