Physiological Responses of the Blue-Throated and Rivoli's Hummingbirds

Lasiewski RC and Lasiewski RJ. 1967. Physiological Responses of the Blue-Throated and Rivoli's Hummingbirds. The Auk. 84(1):34-48

Little is known about the physiological characteristics of intermediate or larger sized hummingbirds and how they compare with those of the smaller species. This study presents data on some physiological responses of the two largest (6.5 to 9 g) species of hummingbirds found in the United States, the Blue-throated Hummingbird, Lampornis clemenciae, and Rivoli's Hummingbird, Eugenes fulgens.
