The authors trapped desert bighorn sheep and marked them with radiotelemetry collars, collars bearing colored tags, and ear tags to 1) determine population size, structure and herd composition of desert bighorn sheep in River Mountains, Nevada; 2) to also document spatial requirements of individuals, both annually and seasonally, including the extend of immigration and emigration; and 3) to determine the effectiveness and reliability of random observations, water-hole counts, and helicopter surveys for estimating population levels.
