Thirty Years of Change in Desert Vegetation

The perennial plants in seven areas were mapped and their changes followed for thirty years or less. Five areas were first mapped in 1906. The area was fenced in 1907. All areas established in 1906 showed increases in plant populations ranging from 40 percent to 851 percent. The increase in number of plants was greater in the last eight years than in the preceeding 32 years. Grasses negligible in 1906 covered 2.7 percent of the 500 sq. m in the oldest areas.
