For the 2005 Annual Performance & Progress Report, air quality data collected between 1995-2004 were examined for trends several air quality parameters in reporting parks. Air quality parameters examined in the analysis included visibility on the clearest and the haziest days, wet atmospheric deposition of sulfate, nitrate, and ammonium, and ozone concentrations. A park was considered to have improving or stable air quality if none of the measures show a statistically significant degrading trend. The target goal for 2005 called for 64% of reporting parks to have stable or improved air quality; the goal was exceeded, with 68% of reporting parks having stable or improved air quality.
