Coastal Intertidal Fish Inventory
Durand J, Krigsman L, Colton M, Larson R. 2006. Coastal Intertidal Fish Inventory. San Francisco State University. San Francisco, CA
In 2002 the National Park Service (NPS), the Point Reyes National Seashore (PRNS), the San Francisco Bay Area Network of Parks and San Francisco State University entered into a Cooperative Agreement to conduct educational and scientific research (Task Agreement No. J8530020077). The agreement was the result of a desire to conduct an “inventory” of marine intertidal organisms, particularly fish, in the PRNS and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). We have found no published surveys of the intertidal fish fauna of this area, but Yoshiyama (1981) and Grossman (1982, 1986) published on extensive collections of intertidal fishes along the San Mateo county coast and at Dillon Beach (respectively). This joint agreement was intended to provide the NPS with the appropriate knowledge to fulfill its mission to preserve and protect the resources in the PRNS and the GGNRA by providing basic information on the species composition and distribution of intertidal fish within its boundaries.
