Report on Compilation of Plant Specimen Vouchers from NPS Units Stored at University of South Dakota Herbarium

Solberg K and Dingman S. 2004. Report on Compilation of Plant Specimen Vouchers from NPS Units Stored at University of South Dakota Herbarium. University of South Dakota. Vermillion, SD

From approximately 2002 to the spring of 2004 a search was conducted of the University of South Dakota herbarium for plant vouchers that may have come from National Park Service units. Since the herbarium is not catalogued in a digital database this search was done manually by visually inspecting each specimen. The pilot effort was conducted by Sandee Dingman, an NPS employee working for Badlands NP. Based on that effort, a followup study was conducted by Katie Solberg, a graduate student at the U. of South Dakota. Whereas the work by Dingman recorded records into NPSpecies, Solberg elected to record data into an Excel file (using the same fields as NSPpecies). Unfortunately, the digital images collected by Solberg were lost near the conclusion of the study. Also, the Dingman report and methods section is much more complete and detailed. This project was funded primarily by the Northern Great Plains I&M Network. The Yellowstone, Northern Colorado Plateau, Southern Colorado Plateau, and Heartland Networks also contributed funding.
