Geologic Resource Extraction in the Areas Surrounding Bighorn Canyon NRA, Grand Teton NP, and Yellowstone NP
Napoli J, Rodman A, Terrill L. 2004. Geologic Resource Extraction in the Areas Surrounding Bighorn Canyon NRA, Grand Teton NP, and Yellowstone NP. Yellowstone Center for Resources (NPS). Mammoth Hot Springs, WY
This project resulted in databases and maps representing over 10,000 active mining claims or geothermal/oil/gas leases within 20 miles of a park (BICA, GRTE, or YELL) boundary. Most of the activity is concentrated northeast of Yellowstone or south of Bighorn Canyon. The study area boundary was overlaid on a GIS coverage of the public land survey system (PLSS). From this subset of the PLSS coverage, we created a list of township, range and sections with 20 miles of each park. We used the list to query the BLM-LR2000 database for active mining claims that fell within the study area.
