The objective of this report is to review and synthesize current knowledge about the effects of cattle grazing on biotic resources in California coastal grasslands and embedded riparian habitats, based on available published literature. This report does not consistently include grazing literature for other ecosystems except where no local information is available, and then only includes studies from comparable ecosystems. The effects of grazing on water quality and soil nutrients are outside the scope of this report but are covered elsewhere. For more information refer to the Baseline Water Quality Inventory and Analysis for Point Reyes National Seashore, completed in 2004 jointly with the National Park Service Water Resources Division in Fort Collins, Colorado. The effects of livestock grazing on cultural resources are also not included herein.
