On September 7-8, 2004, NPS and USGS staff visited the site of the automated weather station (Forest Technology Systems, Inc.), installed on the Harding Icefield in July, 2004. In addition to the routine maintenance scheduled for the weather station, the trip was intended to serve as a reconnaissance of the vascular plant species present at the site, such that the feasibility and value of a more extensive nunatak inventory proposed for FY 2005 could be evaluated (SWAN FY 2004-2005 AARWP, Task 4.17). While the timing of the trip was too late to capture the phenological stages required for positive identification of voucher specimens, our observations and preliminary species list will serve as a reference for future inventories of these and other sensitive vegetation communities in the region.
