The potential of genetic drift and outbreeding depression was studied to produce practical tactics to protect the genetic populations. Recommendations were made that no release of captive tortoises into the wild be conducted, previously released captive tortoises be removed, habitat patches be protected, research critical life history features of desert tortoise, and determine the genetics and ecotypes forth desert tortoise.
