Males of Three Normally Parthenogenetic Species of Teiid Lizards (Genus Cnemidophorus)
Taylor HL, Walker JM, Medica PA. 1967. Males of Three Normally Parthenogenetic Species of Teiid Lizards (Genus Cnemidophorus). Copeia. 1967(4):737-743
Male specimens of a normally parthenogenetic species (Cnemidophorus) are described and compared with females of the same species. Morphological characters customarily used in the systematics of Cnemidophorus are utilized. Morphological criteria suggest that the males have been derived parthenogenetically from females of the same species rather than having had a hybrid origin, suggesting that the presence of males proves that vestiges of bisexuality are retained within these parthenogenetic groups.
