Study regarding the effect a prolonged drought had on vegetation structure and composition at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. Four primary vegetation associations occur in the Yucca Mountain Project area: creosotebush/bursate (Larrea tridentata-Ambrosia dumosa), creosotebush/boxthorn/hopsage (Larrea tridentata-Lycium andersonii-Grayia spinosa), blackbrush (Coleogyne ramosissima), and boxthorn/hopsage (Lycium andersonii-Grayia spinosa). The authors concluded that soil characteristics, depth and texture, were the determining factor in plant mortality as they influence the availability of soil moisture.
