Hypolimnetic Metabolism in Three Cape Cod Lakes
Rich PH. 1980. Hypolimnetic Metabolism in Three Cape Cod Lakes. The American Midland Naturalist. 104(1):102-109
The hypolimnetic oxygen deficits and carbon dioxide increments in three freshwater kettle lakes (Gull, Hathaway, and Mares Ponds) on Cape Cod were studied during summer stratification in 1976. There was a negative correlation between both oxygen uptake and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) release and the amount of light reaching the hypolimnion. Underwater light seems to suppress oxygen uptake more than DIC release.
