This study examines the history of flood deposits in Redwood Creek, Redwood National Park, California. The authors analyze deposits from several thousand years ago, over the past 800 years, and in one recent high flow season. In some periods, storm-deposited sediments have been removed within 5 or 10 years; sediments from the 1964 flood moved downstream 6 km. in 9 years, aggrading lower reaches. The study concludes that long-term sedimentary records may not relate to the significant short-term fluctuations caused by land use.
